It’s important to remember that a stray backpack or jacket might indicate that a child is asleep or hiding nearby.

Criteria for Prime Time Bus Drivers

Prime Time bus drivers must meet the following requirements.

Age

Drivers must be at least 21 years old.

Physical Examination

Drivers must pass and comply with all local, state, and federal regulations.

Licensing

Drivers must possess a valid school bus driver’s license (CDL) issued by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

Background Checks

Drivers are subject to criminal background checks.

Student Conduct

Drivers must take reasonable and appropriate actions to prevent students from using indecent or profane language while the text is about being moved or carried from one place to another.

Substance Use

Drivers must not consume alcohol or use drugs or controlled substances before or during work hours.

Documentation

Drivers must always carry their school bus driver’s license, a list of their students, and a route sheet indicating authorized stops while on duty.

Testing

All drivers must submit to random, unannounced on-site urine and breathalyzer tests. If drivers appear under the influence, they cannot take a bus route.

Compliance with Drug Testing

Drivers must comply with all drug testing requirements mandated by state or federal law or by Prime Time Bus Company

Tobacco Use

Drivers are prohibited from using tobacco on duty.

Student Dismissal

Drivers can only remove a student from the bus at a location other than the approved bus stop with prior authorization.

Accident Reporting

Drivers must immediately report any accidents involving the school bus.

Route Compliance

Drivers must follow established bus routes as determined and approved by the appropriate School District.

Training

All drivers must attend safety training sessions.

The state of New York fully licenses all drivers on the Prime Time Bus. Most drivers have been with the company since its inception and have become valuable assets to our growing business.
All drivers are required to complete the following:

  •  N.Y.S. 19A Certification
  • N.Y.S. Safety Training Program
  • Criminal Background Check
  • Annual Physical / Performance Exam
  • Child Protection Course (must be passed)
